Jodie Foster was born Alicia Christian Foster on the 19th of November, 1962, in Los Angeles. She was nicknamed Jodie by her three older siblings.

Due to the fact that her mother was a Hollywood publicist she found her first role in a commercial. By the age of 8 Jodie had appeared in over 40 commercials, and had turned up in several TV shows, such as Adam-12, The Courtship Of Eddie's Father (the father was Bill "Hulk" Bixby .

Foster had demonstrated an acting talent impressive enough to earn a casting call to 1976's Taxi Driver. The film proved to be a contemporary classic, and Foster's role in it, as a teenage prostitute, won her critical acclaim as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Jodie Foster was accepted at Yale University, where she began attending lectures in English Literature that fall and she gradueted it in 1985;

Foster followed that Oscar-nominated performance with appearances in several features including the uneven gangster musical spoof "Bugsy Malone" (1976) playing Miss Tallulah, a bawdy speakeasy queen; "The Little Girl Who Lived Down the Lane" (1977) in the title role of a young murderer; and "Carny" (1980)

Foster finally consolidated her reputation with Oscar-winning portrayals of a rape victim in "The Accused" (1988) and a rookie FBI agent in Jonathan Demme's psychological thriller, "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991).

On March 30th, 1981, when John Hinckley shot President Ronald Reagan. Hinckley was quickly overpowered and the President survived, but Jodie's nightmare was just beginning - for Hinckley now claimed that the attempted assassination was all for her. After being committed, he wrote to Time Magazine saying "The most important thing in my life is Jodie Foster's love and admiration. If I can't have them, neither can anyone else". Hence, she became, and remains to this day, one of Hollywood's most private celebrities.
